Formoterol (foradil) belongs to the family of medicines known as [beta ]2 -agonists. Formoterol inhalation is used to prevent bronchospasm in people with reversible obstructive airways disease, including symptoms of night-time asthma. It is also used in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. It works by dilating (opening) the bronchioles (air tubes) of the lung by relaxing the smooth muscle around the bronchioles.
Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to formoterol or inhaled lactose. Do not use formoterol inhalation to treat an asthma attack that has already begun. It will not work fast enough to reverse your symptoms. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have irregular heartbeat, heart failure, heart disease, other heart problems, high blood pressure, worsening breathing problems, seizures, thyroid problems, diabetes, or epilepsy.
