Preston University & Quaid-e-Azam University jointly organize "13th International Pure Mathematics Conference"

Federal Minister for Education and Training, Sheikh Waqas Akram graces the event as Chief Guest. Announces donation of Rs. 5 million for the Pakistan Mathematical Society for effective promotion of Mathematics. Donation was announced on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi. The 13th International Pure Mathematics Conference was held in Islamabad from September 1-3, 2012. Scholars and Mathematicians of repute, from within the country and abroad, participated in the conference in large numbers.

The ‘13th International Pure Mathematics Conference’ was held in Islamabad from September 1-3, 2012. Federal Minister for Education and Training, Sheikh Waqas Akram graced the inaugural ceremony of the conference held at a local hotel in Islamabad on September 1, 2012 as Chief Guest. Preston University and Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad was jointly responsible for organizing the referenced international event. The collaborating institutions were: the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan Science Foundation and Pakistan Mathematical Society.    

In his brief address on the occasion, Chief Guest, Federal Minister for Education and Training, Sheikh Waqas Akram expressed his profound appreciation to the organizers for successfully holding the 13th International Pure Mathematics Conference in Islamabad.  He also lauded the efforts of the Pakistan Mathematical Society and the sponsors to promote the cause of mathematics education in the country, in a sustained manner. Mr. Waqas Akram further said that Mathematics is indeed a very important subject as it has application in almost every sphere of science and engineering education. It is, in fact, the backbone of science subjects, he maintained. He said that its application in our everyday life also cannot be over emphasized. Mr. Waqas Akram said that the government stands committed to provide full support to the endeavors of institutions engaged in promoting the cause of Mathematics in the country. He expressed the hope that the three-day deliberations between the Pakistani scholars and scholars from abroad, in the field of Mathematics would undoubtedly produce positive results, and they would be able to derive enormous benefit from each others experiences in this very important field of study.

 Eminent among the speakers who addressed the distinguished gathering were: Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Vice Chancellor Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, President Pakistan Mathematical Society (PMS) and Dr. Abdul Basit, Chancellor Preston University. The 13th International Pure Mathematics Conference concluded in Islamabad on September 3, 2012 with a ceremony held on the occasion to distribute certificates among the conference participants.
