Preston University Organizes Inter-university "Sports Gala"

 

The mega inter-university competitions conclude with a grand prize distribution ceremony. Teams of winning universities receive trophies from Dr. Abdul Basit, Chancellor Preston University, Chief Guest of the Prize Distribution Ceremony.     

Preston University organized an inter-university ‘Sports Gala’. This grand event was held under the banner of ‘Spring Splash 2015’, a week-long festivity that is organized by the university once every year. The championships held in the sports gala were: T-20 Cricket, Football, and male and female Badminton and Table Tennis competitions. Students of Public and private universities of Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Kohat, and Lahore enthusiastically participated in different sports events organized during the week-long festivity.    

In T-20 Cricket championship the teams of Abasyn University, Peshawar and Preston University, Kohat, after beating the teams of other competing universities out-and-out, reached the finals. In the finals of the competition Abasyn University, Peshawar outclassed Preston University, Kohat and clinched first position. Preston University, Kohat were declared runners up in T-20 Cricket.

In the male Badminton competition, Federal Urdu University, Islamabad and Hamdard University, Islamabad made it to the finals after beating the teams of the other competing universities. After a neck-and-competition Federal Urdu University, Islamabad beat Hamdard University to capture first position in this competition. Hamdard University remained runners up in the male Badminton competition. In the female Badminton Championship, Preston University took the lead. It beat its competitor Air University, Islamabad comprehensively and grabbed first position in this championship. Air University was declared runners up in the female Badminton championship.

In Badminton Mixed Doubles Competition, Air University, Islamabad and Preston University, Islamabad, after beating the teams of the other competing universities, reached the finals of the game. The team of Air University played brilliantly and grabbed the top slot in the game. The team of Preston University which also played pretty well in this competition was declared runners up.                 

Preston University, Islamabad and Hamdard University, Islamabad beat their counterparts from other competing universities through and through and reached the finals of the inter-university Football Championship. After a tough fight Preston University, Islamabad beat its competitor, Hamdard University, to win first position in the Football Championship. Hamdard Islamabad was declared the runners up in this competition.

In the inter-university male Table Tennis Championship, Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi beat Hamdard University, Islamabad, after a tough fight, to become champions of the tournament. Hamdard University was declared runners up in this tournament.  In the female Table Tennis Championship, Air University, Islamabad outshined Preston University, Islamabad and won first position. Preston Islamabad was declared runners up in this tournament.     

The winning teams of all the inter-university championships held during the ‘Sports Gala’ organized by Preston University, Islamabad were awarded prizes at a simple but impressive ceremony held at the Shalimar Cricket Ground, Islamabad. The Chancellor of Preston University, Dr. Abdul Basit who was the chief guest at the award distribution ceremony, distributed prizes among the winners of different sports competitions. While addressing the students of the participating universities, he said all the participating teams had performed well in the respective tournaments in which they participated. However, the teams which were declared the best and second best had performed outstandingly for which they were awarded first and second positions. Dr. Abdul Basit heartily congratulated the winning teams on their remarkable achievement. He expressed the hope that the teams who were not able to win positions this time would work harder and do better in the future to earn top positions for their universities in these competitions.
