Weekly FACULTY ACADEMIC FORUM-LECTURE SERIES-5., PRESTON UNIVERSITY KOHAT ,Islamabad campus was held on September 13, 2017.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tasneem Shah, HoD Mathematics Preston University Islamabad delivered a lecture titled, “Role of Mathematics in Art, Architecture, Science, and Engineering".

The lecture focused only on art, architecture, science and engineering because the author’s expertise is on science and engineering. The author addressed the application of mathematics in the construction of historical large buildings keeping the aesthetic sense.

Mathematics and architecture are related, therefore architects  use geometry for engineering buildings. They define the spatial form of a building; from the Pythagoreans of the sixth century BC onwards, to create forms considered harmonious, and thus to lay out buildings and their surroundings according to mathematical, aesthetic and sometimes religious principles. This is done to decorate buildings with mathematical objects such as tessellations; and to meet environmental goals, such as to minimize wind speeds around the bases of tall buildings.

The second part of the talk focused on the work done by the author at National Laboratories that highlighted the applications of mathematics in engineering problems.

At the end, some collaborative practical research work was done and results were presented.
